My students desperately need 35 copies of a dictionary so each student can reference unfamiliar words and build their vocabulary.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Miss, what's this word!"
As an English teacher, I constantly teach my students new vocabulary words and how to define words based on context clues.
However, my instruction is simply not enough to teach my English Language Learners all the vocabulary words they need to know. They are motivated and want to become great readers and writers but they need to increase their vocabulary to get there!
I personally believe the best way to learn new vocabulary is to build off a students motivation to learn the definition of a word. When a student fills a desire to learn what a word means, they will most likely not forget it. I want to empower my students to look up intriguing words with their own dictionaries.
However, I only have two dictionaries. They are thrown across the room every day. If each student had their own dictionary and looked up one word a day, they would learn 180 words ON THEIR OWN each year! Please, please fill my students thirst for new vocabulary. They face enough hardships outside of school and these dictionaries will truly enrich their lives inside and out of school.
You can help them navigate the classroom, the streets, and pave their way to college and beyond. Please, please help my students develop the vocabulary they so truly desire to be competitive in today's world!
