Developmentally Appropriate Writing Tools For Kindergarteners
Help me give my students jumbo pencils and crayons to provide students with special needs developmentally appropriate writing tools. We are also asking for writing journals.
I have been delighted with the most ambitious, hardworking, and persistent kindergarteners in the Pacific Northwest. This unique bunch came together to create our integrated kindergarten program. This program is comprised of students with special needs and typically developing peers working together to navigate the wonderful land of kindergarten.
We are a community of thoughtful, intentional, and tolerant citizens who value and appreciate the individual needs of each person that walks through our door.
We are accomplishing more than academics, we are striving for loving and intellectual community members.
I am so thankful for my class, they are ready and eager for any challenge I bring forth. They explore, create, and engage in every activity. The smiles and laughter make each day worth it. Watching them grow and learn has been the highlight of my year.
My Project
These writing and drawing materials are desperately needed. Many of my students are in the beginning stages of writing. I have several students who need larger pencils and crayons to increase the sensory input in their hands. I also need these larger tools for students that have a delay in their fine motor development. These pencils are easier to grasp for kindergarteners. I have been purchasing packs of larger pencils and crayons but they are leaps more expensive than regular pencils and crayons.
These kindergarteners have huge imaginations and loads to write about, help us get materials to show the world all the potential we have!
Learning to write can be such a fun process if we have the right tools to do it.
