This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having a classroom library with meaningful social emotional learning (SEL) books is an essential tool that helps promote curiosity and understanding about one's owns feeling and the feelings of others. Through teacher-lead SEL read alouds, follow up discussions about the SEL reading, and independent reading, students will become better equipped with coping skills and be able to identify the feelings of others and their own emotions.

I love that I'm able to empower and cultivate young minds in first grade in positive and meaningful ways.

I have many former students return to visit and share how what I taught them during SEL block has helped them deal with stressful situations because I help equip them with strategies that help them regulate impulsive reactions.

I have seen how a classroom library with meaningful SEL books can positively affect my students' outlook on uncomfortable situations and help them recognize and act on any situation in positive ways!
