My students need extra sensory boxes (sensory play materials, feel and find sensory tubs, kinetic sand, and sensory play scoops and buckets) and balancing equipment (beginner's balance beam, color cones, a mini bowling set, and 4 scooter boards) to work on their fine and gross motor skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all children with Autism. They love school but need sensory integration and balance skills to function better as a student.
I teach students with Autism in a Title 1 School.
This year I have all kindergarten students. I have noticed that their biggest delays are in the areas of sensory integration and balance. I have a small class but we regularly work on these activities with other classes in our unit.
My Project
I am asking for a beginner's balance beam, color cones, a mini bowling set, and 4 scooter boards to assist in my students' balance while still making it fun. I plan to use these materials during our outside time as they work on gross motor skills. I am also asking for sensory play materials, feel and find sensory tubs, kinetic sand, and sensory play scoops and buckets. I plan to use these materials during our inside time social time. I have found that when the students are engaged in a sensory activity they play better together.
By donating to my class you will be helping to improve my students futures'.
Many children with Autism have difficulty later in life because they do not always have the social, sensory, or gross motor skills that are needed to function properly. These activities will help to build a foundation for their futures.
