This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a school in which quality education is integrated into 21st-century learning. I am blessed to be teaching 4th grade and integrating technology into our learning. Along with teaching 4th grade, I am the after-school program liaison and have the honor to see the learning environments for grades 1-6. All students, K-6, come into the classroom with knowledge and exposure to social media and YouTube videos. Knowing the strong impact this has on my students, either positively or negatively, integrating social media and YouTube into our lessons is crucial for them to understand how to be safe online while creating meaningful content. It is my goal to create opportunities in video production to extend their understanding of what they learn.

My Project

As our Visual Literacy program has gone underway this year, my students have shown a tremendous growth in creativity. Hearing their conversations about camera angles and different shots have blown me away. One challenge that we have encountered repeatedly is the relatively small screen on my GoPro when directing our shots.

By having the Panasonic LUMIX DMC FZ300 4K and Rode VMGO Video Mic GO, students will be able to develop their skills as directors while directing other students in their films.

The larger screen size will allow the directors to analyze and adjust the actors in their given shots. The GoPro housing does not allow access to connect an external microphone, thus limiting the sound being recorded. These two items will allow my students to make their creations come to life. As their teacher, I am recruiting a group from 4-6th grade to revive our school's news channel and have them work on news reports afterschool to share each week!
