Help me give my students the materials they need to build their fine motor and social emotional skills. We will use the Bostitch electric pencil sharpener to sharpen their large pencils and stuffed animals to read and cuddle.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are kind and caring children who enter the classroom with a range of strengths and needs. In my South Bronx public elementary school, we are a community of diverse learners.
The school welcomes students who are children of immigrant families, students who are living in high poverty, and students who are learning English as a new language.
Despite those challenges, they come together to form a strong community of learners and friends.
In my ICT kindergarten classroom, my students are excited, energetic, and motivated to learn. They love reading and making art. They love drawing and writing stories about their lives. They love playing and exploring what it means to be a good friend. They are limitless in their aspirations and potential.
My Project
After a year of learning both at home and in the classroom, we are welcoming all students back to school! We are also discovering that many students need extra support building their hand muscles needed to write as well as their social skills needed to make friends.
We are using extra large pencils to help the children build strong hand muscles, but we have no pencil sharpener for these special pencils.
We also will be using play-dough to build those muscles through play.
We also need to help the children practice social skills to make new friends and to feel secure in a new environment. The stuffed animals will provide students a transitional object to hold and hug when they need to be comforted and feel safe.
