My Project
The students I serve have been identified as students with a wide range of varying disabilities. Some of our students have specific learning disabilities while others have autism, emotional disabilities, ADHD or other medical diagnoses that impact their learning. These wonderful students struggle oftentimes with weaknesses in the area of social and emotional skills. We need resources, tools, and strategies to support growth in these areas.
The resources purchased with this project will assist our students in developing social emotional skills needed so they may be able to successfully participate alongside their typical aged peers throughout the school day in class.
The resources will assist them in strengthening their confidence so they may develop friendships and learn to develop independence at school.
Our students take pride in being able to function independently with their peers throughout the school day. They enjoy going on field trips, being at recess, and going to special area classes with their classmates and friends. The skills developed and strengthened through the use of books, games, and conversation cubes will support our students in these areas.
Our school has a population of around 800 students. Our students encompass around 20 percent of the school's student population. We take pride in the fact that all students in our building are able to participate in schoolwide events and activities alongside their peers. All students are assigned to grade level homerooms with their same aged peers. It is important that we find ways for our students to strengthen these weak areas so they are more successful interacting with their peers at school and in their community.
