My Students

If I could describe my classroom in five words, they would be: authentic, rigorous, supportive, engaging, and community. Students in my class have ownership of their own learning and a lot of what goes on happens organically.

My students know how to make each other laugh, give a hand when someone is in need and give encouraging words when someone is having a tough day.

This group of kiddos really takes pride in their learning and their friendships. We say we are one family in this first grade classroom because we take care of and help everyone.

My Project

Fine motor skills impact function and hand use in small motor tasks. You may have heard the term fine motor skills before. The hands play an important role in most occupations that we perform. From writing to tying, getting dressed and feeding oneself, most of our day to day tasks involve using our hands. So, when fine motor control and dexterity impact functional performance, it can be a reason to work on motor control of the hands. Fine motor skills are the refined movements and actions of the hands, fingers, and wrists that enable precision and dexterity of movement. Fine motor skills can be broken down into different motor components that impact the ability to use the hands in functional tasks and tool use.

Fine motor skills are necessary for every task that a child completes.

The requested putty, lacing beads, counters, tweezers, and other fun activities will give my students the opportunity to strengthen their fine motor skills that we have been seeing a decline in since returning to in-person instruction this year.
