My students need a functioning library with a variety of books that are on and above their level. As a class we also need basic supplies for instruction.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am entering this school year as a 3rd grade ICT teacher. Many of my students are reading below grade level, and my goal is to have every student reading on level by the end of the school year. My challenge will be getting them excited about reading and becoming engaged with reading activities.
My students come from low income neighborhoods which is also the setting for our NYC school.
Many of my students are also in the foster care system and have a hard time trusting new people. My classroom is designed to integrate typically developing students and students with developmental disabilities. My school promotes inclusive learning, and we work hard as a school to foster a sense of community amongst the entire staff, families, and the neighborhood.
My Project
With the books I have requested my students will have a variety of literature to choose from for independent reading. I have also requested an exciting read aloud book that will guide the class through science inquiry and investigations. I also included the book "Because of Mr. Terupt” by Rob Buyea for the book club to generate insightful conversations about character and self-development. In addition to books the class will also need basic supplies like paper for our bulletin boards and a dry erase board for instruction.
Donations made to this project will help push my students to becoming better readers and engaged learners.
I have requested items that will promote inquiry and generate debates/ meaningful conversation based on text. They will also develop independent identities as readers.
