"I have never started a poem yet whose end I knew. Writing a poem is discovering." ~ Robert Frost
Writing is a very creative process and it is my hope that my students use their creative abilities to become amazing.
I am a first year teacher in a low income area of Chicago.
My students are a creative group that is eager to jump into their writing workshops and become "published" authors. While many are still learning the basics of the English language, it is with practice that they will get better and build their confidence in writing, reading, and in speaking. Many of my students are shy when it comes to their writing and having their work be seen by their peers. I hope to be able to use these resources to show them that writing is a process and that with practice it will get easier and more enjoyable.
My Project
My students need chart paper, a paper trimmer, markers, 3 hole punch, pencil sharpener and clip boards to kick off their writing workshops and become published. The resources requested will help students to brainstorm their ideas as a class as well as give them the ability to move about the classroom to get their creative juices flowing during our writing time. My wish is for my 6th grade students to enter the 7th grade with a strong ability to write and be confident that they will become better the more they practice. I want them to understand that it is okay to make mistakes; it is how we all learn. Being able to have the students not only brainstorm their ideas, but also post their ideas on the wall with the chart paper so they can reference their ideas throughout the year will not only help them progress as writers but also help them to see how far they have come during the school year.
My wish is for my students to become the best writers that they individually can be and to use their ideas and imagination to develop amazing writing.
It is with practice that students develop courage and confidence. I hope to be able to create, using my students' creative writing pieces as well as artwork, a 6th grade literary magazine that will highlight their writing accomplishments throughout the school year.
