My Students
Our classes consist of a full day kindergarten class in a Title I school. Our district is in a rural/suburban area. Often times, our students enter kindergarten with a variety of school readiness.
We are Title I with 30% of our students economically disadvantaged and qualify for free and reduced lunch. We want to provide all students with a literacy rich environment. With these materials, each student will experience a wide variety of genres in the English Language Arts curriculum.
My Project
I am in my 10th year of teaching Kindergarten and my books are becoming worn. The kindergarten students at NSE will be exposed to both fiction and non-fiction stories each week, according to a specific theme. With the use of these materials, the students will gain an understanding on various literature based on the PA Common Core.
Having access to these books will allow each teacher to expose all the kindergarten students at the same time. This will be beneficial for all students during intervention/enrichment. The books will be used in whole group and small group instruction to assist students in gaining skills related to literature.
