Help me give my students quality literature to study authors' craft, text structures, and genre. Ruth and the Green Book will allow us to study historical fiction, inferring, predicting, making connections, & visualizing.
Fourth grade is a really fun place. Students are enthusiastic about life, learning, and school. They begin learning more about themselves and others in books. They are developing compassion and empathy. 4th grade is the beginning of students' ability to better understand the complexities of the reading process and analyze their strategies as readers.
My students are curious and passionate learners.
I am excited about the opportunity I have to help them explore and understand the world around them! My classroom is made up of very diverse learners. They come from a variety of experiences and backgrounds.
My Project
4th graders are no longer just reading words, they enjoying and comparing texts to their experiences and other learning. Metacognition and helping students recognize their thinking is key to helping them improve comprehension in reading. As they improve as readers they are also encouraged and empowered to become more independent and life-long readers.
Teaching students to recognize the processes that good readers do without thinking is essential in helping transition students who are learning to read to becoming accomplished and capable readers.
Readers make and recognize connections, ask questions, visualize, predict, determine importance, infer, and synthesize as they read to comprehend what they are reading. The requested texts all present specific and quality opportunities for students to recognize and practice using these skills and strategies.
