Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember being able to play and develop oral language in Kindergarten?
The students that come in my kindergarten classroom are quite different than those from the past.
They are definitely younger, usually 5 or 6 years old, and for some this is their first experience in a school setting. They come from low income families and have parents or other family members who work day in and day out to provide for them.
My Project
Many of the students that enter my classroom have limited oral language. I have requested pretend food and the basic kitchen materials for my students to use in their new pretend kitchen.
With the donation of these materials, my students will be able to develop oral language as they "play" in their new kitchen area filled with all the appropriate kitchen utensils. This project will also help them better understand our healthy habits unit which will teach them about having a healthy lifestyle.
For the past year our new kitchen has been packed away because we did not have the materials to make it a successful learning center.
I want the kitchen area to be a center where my students will learn and develop their oral language in an engaging way.
