My Students

Developmentally Delayed and Autistic young children have many talents yet to be identified and explored.... we are canvases yet to be painted. We are still learning how to learn and interact in the everyday world.

We love to roll down small hills during recess again, again, and again and kick off our shoes to walk in the dirt.

A small pine needle or a bug catches our attention for long periods of time. We don't observe how others are playing at recess because we are all wrapped up in our own special way of "being."

Sometimes our gluing projects turn into puddles of glue on a surface other than expected because watching the glue pour out of the bottle is fascinating! Our teachers have to be very diligent in watching us because sometimes the items to explore are explored with our mouth, ears, and noses.

Everything needs to be touched...this is how we learn..

My Project

If fully funded the students will cut with special scissors, use dough to form letters and numbers, and use stamps to build words.

We will use our hands to find our “voice” to communicate with others.

The materials we use with our hands such as dough, glue, scissors and stamps will teach us to say words to increase our vocabulary. When students create, we use the creations to develop “sentence starters”.

Lacing cards will build our fine motor skills. Sponge stamps can build words that we see and learn to say. These words will be used to build oral sentences.
