My ESOL students are smart, well mannered and deserve any assistance that can be given. I teach ESOL students for both the girls and boys school. They need access to technology to help them improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. None of my students have access to technology at home, which makes technology at school an even bigger necessity for my scholars. Using iPads would allow them to participate in activities that would help them improve their English language skills.
Exposure is the key to success!
English Language Learners depend on visuals to learn. iPads would allow students to access online literacy activities and provide the means for students to practice listening and writing under similar circumstances as the standardized tests and assessments require. Some of my students have dual challenges which involve a barrier in language and other special needs.
My Project
While I am working with small groups of students, 2-4 students can use iPads to increase their oral communication skills, literacy skills, as well as assessment skills in preparation of standardized testing. Students will have the opportunity to work independently and in small group settings on applications that will translate Spanish to English and provide practice to increase grammar skills and make it easier for their challenges to be addressed with those that have similar needs.
Access to technology with iPads will expose my ESOL students with challenges involving language and special needs to interactive communication activities and applications that will help to improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
