This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our new and innovative STEM Lab increases engagement in all areas because students are consistently making connections to real-world experiences. Our goal is to provide learning experiences that build students' essential skills, in order to be successful in their future careers. Each day the students complete an age-appropriate challenge that builds upon the Engineering Design Process (Ask, Imagine, Improve, Create, and Plan). Groups are asked to complete this as a team and discuss the challenges and successes they face along the way. This strongly influences how they adapt to team-building and problem-solving experiences. I refer to this as "productively preserving".
What's amazing is that students who have never cared for or been strong with math or science learn to love coming to STEM Lab.
The materials listed will add and enhance our students' STEM Lab experience. We focus on the fact that we all have strengths and weaknesses. Each student quickly begins to see the bigger picture- that every individual has something to contribute. This strongly enriches their experience because they then intrinsically want to learn, explore and allow themselves to be vulnerable with one another.
