Developing Financial Literacy and Life Skills Through Cooking

Help me give my students materials to run a coffee shop, to fund our cooking class and to learn about budgeting, financial literacy, and cooking/life skills.

My Project

I am a dedicated special education teacher committed to making a meaningful impact by equipping my students with essential life skills and advocacy. The items listed on this wish list will support two classes. The first class is a Money Skills (Personal Finance) and a Cooking/Life Skills class.

In these classes my students are learning about life skills through cooking and managing a coffee cart.

They will learn how to budget for the coffee cart and funding for our cooking class. These are life long skills they can use now and in the real world now and in the future.

The goal is for them to learn valuable budgeting techniques and comparison shopping skills. It also focuses on personal finance, specifically designed for students with disabilities and those who may struggle with math.

To reinforce the lessons from both classes, students will operate a coffee bar throughout the day. This hands-on experience will provide practical learning opportunities in job responsibility, budgeting, financial management, planning, and teamwork.

The wish list includes essential items such as a coffee pot, cups, cooking supplies and various educational materials to facilitate these classes. This initiative benefits both students with special needs and general education students, as both groups will participate in these enriching experiences. Thank you for your support.
