Developing Character in Kindergarten Students

My students need quality photo books and big books at a kindergarten level that address the character traits of fairness, honesty, respect, responsibility and citizenship.

My Students

Learning how to be a good citizen begins in the kindergarten classroom. Students need to learn to be caring, respectful, honest, cooperative and responsible citizens. I strive to teach these qualities daily as I work to develop a strong sense of community in my classroom.

I teach at a public elementary school in Iowa that has a great deal of diversity and a high level of poverty.

I believe these students deserve the very best education possible. It is my goal to teach academic skills, as well as develop positive character traits that will help students be successful in life. My students are eager to learn. They love school and have developed good work habits. I have high expectations for academics and behavior which help ensure that all students experience success.

My Project

The character education books that I am requesting will be used to teach literacy skills, as well as life skills. The big book set is ideal for a kindergarten classroom. It captures the students' attention while teaching important character traits. The books explain concepts at a level that young children can relate to and understand. The character education books will be read aloud to the class, followed by discussion, role playing, writing and community building activities.

The character education books that I am requesting focus on personal skills and positive values.

Your contribution will help students learn how to make wise choices and become good citizens. I want all students in my classroom to become honest, caring, respectful, responsible, and cooperative citizens. These books will be made available for other classrooms to use as well.
