My students need dictionaries for their personal use to help improve vocabulary and overall literacy.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Reading is to the mind, as exercise is to the body".
I love to read and write and I love to share that passion with my students. However, many of my students have impoverished vocabularies and therefore reading and writing can often be difficult.
The school where I teach is located in the inner city of Las Vegas.
There are many resources that we would love to have, but often do not have the funding for them. My students are wonderful fourth graders who have a passion for learning new things. Each day when they come to school is different. For some, it is a struggle. With parents working late hours, siblings to mind, and chores to do they are more tired than I am! I love my students and I love my job, I want to do all that I can to help them succeed.
My Project
When reading a challenging book or creating a piece of writing, many students will call out, "How do you spell....?" or "What does .... mean?"
I want students to have the resources to help themselves. With limited dictionaries, and space, in the classroom, having a personal dictionary for each child will make learning easier for each student.
I want my students be learn to become self-sufficient.
Not to say they should do everything on their own, but to know that they can help themselves. Learning to properly use a dictionary will aid their learning greatly, and give them the important skill of independence.
