Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for EVERY student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals.
Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,200 kids enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
Donated funds will be used to purchase two pad mini tablets, covers, and screen protectors. The technology pieces will serve as our iPad Island Station and will provide a place for students to conduct investigations while developing 21st century skills in collaboration, creativity, and technology integration. I have created a character called Detective Q.R. Cody, and I have designed activities in all academic areas to incorporate Q.R. codes. I pose questions to the students, and they scan the QR Code I created. It links them to a website of information to read or video to watch so they can discover the answers on their own. I will teach the students how to generate their own QR codes as well. For example, they will be able to write their own math stories to problem solve and the kids will create an answer on the Q.R. Code generator. Students will be able to work each others' problems and use the ipads to scan the answers and self-check.
The iPad integration will motivate and inspire students to read, write and solve problems because they will develop ownership in the creation of the activities and Q.R.
codes using the Internet. It will help students develop their 21st century technology skills and gain confidence to meet their individual needs in the classroom.
