This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school, we have the benefit of having a conference room outside of our counseling offices. The space is utilized for parent meetings as well as a space for students to complete make up work, tests, and have a calm and safe space to take a break.

This space has not been updated for over 12 years.

Creating a relaxing environment starts with changing out our lighting. With the string lights and lamps, we can create a more fun and inviting space for students. With the contact paper, it allows us to bring a more natural look to use on our metal furniture which will make our office look less industrial and more counselor-like. The chalkboard is to give students a create outlet to express thoughts, feelings and share positive messages. The coloring books are going to be used for students when they are having anxious feelings and need something to focus on other than their anxiety. The posters, the neon sign and frames will be put up on the walls to give students positive messages and strategies to cope.

We are hoping to spruce it up to make it more welcoming to parents, staff and students. With these items, we will be able to make the entire counseling office more calming.
