My school is located in a rural area in Maine and qualifies for 100% free breakfast and free lunch. My students are eager learners. They come ready to learn each and every day. They are a group of children who are working hard to be lifelong learners. I would love to provide my students with Desk Pets that they can take care of in their free time and earn coins for positive behavior.
My Project
Students still need to practice social distancing in the classroom. Our social interaction isn't what I would like it to be in Kindergarten. Our social interactions have drastically changed due to Covid regulations in place for safety.
I would like to promote positive behaviors with my students and encourage social and emotional learning .
My students will earn tokens for positive behaviors so they can shop for their own desk pet, a large eraser. They can add to their collection and shop for food, and hobbies, which will be mini erasers for the desk pets. The students may play with the desk pets during their social time of the day. This will allow the students to develop social skills and choice making skills. Nurturing their new desk pet will also allow them to develop and practice their social and emotional learning skills.
