My innovative students are building a future of inclusion and empathy. They need tools to facilitate a mental space of flow. This is the state of mind when a person becomes fully immersed in an activity with intentional practice. When we enter this state, it encourages innovative, creative thought and general health and wellness.
My Project
Building a learning environment that feels safe and open takes a lot of hard, intentional work. One of the hardest things about that work is being able to stay present through moments of emotional intensity. Leveraging technology for students' well-being is integral in the 21st Century Classroom.
The One by Wacom drawing tablet connects directly to their Chromebooks in class and affords the opportunity to explore mental health in a safe learning environment.
My students need these additional devices due to limitations in funding from a previously recent project, "Designing Emotional Health" to have daily access to Chromebooks. The Chromebook devices are not touchscreen and do not allow students to adequately annotate their work. These tablets allow each student the ability to collaborate and allow them opportunities to utilize technology to draw models, diagrams, and incorporate the written word into projects. The tablet is fully supported by education apps like Kami, Pear Deck, Limnu, and Explain Everything.
