This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for eighteen years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
Utilizing the If/Then digital collection, middle school and high school scholars will learn about women in STEM that invented and made a difference. Often, traditional textbooks and curriculum do not teach about women that made a difference. Having kids do the research and then make a STEM design project will help make learning more authentic.
This project will make use of a Cricut the library has, as kids use the vinyl to design their own water bottles or tumblers.
Supplies will allow a choice of color as well as help scholars learn how to use technology by transferring their designs from the computer to the Cricut. They will learn patience as they peel and stick what they made as well as finishing a fun project to completion.
