Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school itself is in a suburban setting. However, most students are from a nearby low-income and high crime rate area.
Despite this, a fair percentage of such students are motivated to learn.
They work hard and are excited to learn. The students are underprivileged and deserve to get as much help as possible.
My Project
The switch to NGSS (Next Generation Science Standard) necessitates a change in the way high school Physics is taught. A more hands-on and investigative approach implied by NGSS requires a drastic increase in the repertoire of apparatus in the Physics lab I inherited from the former teacher.
Seeing is believing, or at least more convincing.
Being able to demonstrate or observe physics phenomena in class will greatly enhance understanding of the physics and phenomena involved. This will make learning physics fun and help reducing the achievement gap between this neighborhood and wealthier ones.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
