This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In the 10th grade, students are exposed to a variety of genres to explore as they develop their critical thinking and analysis skills. By making the book, "Harry Potter" accessible to my students, they will be able to learn about the various genre elements of fantasy, while also delving deep into themes that can help them grow as readers and individuals. The Harry Potter series is full of diverse characters from different backgrounds, races, and social classes.
The engaging, magical world of Harry Potter can ignite a passion for reading, especially for my students; this novel can hook students on reading, sparking a desire to explore other literary works and stories The books are accessible, yet rich with themes and complex characters, making them suitable for a wide range of ages and reading levels.Students can learn empathy as they see characters, like Harry, Hermione, and even Draco Malfoy, navigate their personal struggles, prejudices, and growth.
The themes of tolerance, fighting discrimination, and standing up for what's right are woven throughout the story. The story is also filled with complex puzzles, mysteries, and moral dilemmas. Harry and his friends often have to think critically and work together to solve problems. This encourages students to think creatively and critically when approaching challenges in their own lives. Students can also engage in discussions about the moral decisions faced by characters, encouraging them to analyze choices and consequences.
With this project, I hope to spark students' interest in reading and engaging in academic conversations about this book through socratic seminars. My students are highly motivated and driven, and engage critically with the texts that come before them. By providing them with this book, I hope they can develop their skills and utilize them in the rest of their high school years and beyond.
