My Students
My students are 8th graders who are currently enrolled in an Algebra 1 Regents class. These students come from a multicultural background, are worldly, inspiring, hardworking, and a great deal of fun. They inspire me everyday to do my best and I hope they feel the same. These students have gone from 7th grade Math straight into 9th grade Algebra. They will walk into their high schools next year with many credits already complete. This is the second year that MS51 has pushed all students towards Algebra 1. I feel it has been a great success with over a 90% pass rate.
My Project
Teaching and learning the Algebra 1 Curriculum for the NYS Regents can be challenging. I'll bet, if you grew up in NYS, that you used the red Barron's study book prior to taking your Regents Exam. Times have changed. Technology is always helping drive education. A wonderful program called Delta Math has been designed by a fellow DOE teacher at Brooklyn Tech HS. My students use Delta Math at home and in the classroom to complete HW assignments and study for quizzes and exams. These Chromebooks will allow us to set up permanent HW stations, or study centers, within the classroom.
