My Students
African American, Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern, Caucasian... The wonderful melting pot of my Kindergarten class. My students are energetic, funny, inquisitive, and strong. They are so excited!
Our school includes low-income students, with 100% of them receiving free lunch.
They come from homes with wonderful parental involvement, but minimal resources.
My students are very eager to learn new things. I want to be able to afford them different opportunities to learn many new things by using different materials and different avenues.
My Project
Children love to eat, so what better way to get them to love literacy than through cooking? This project is all about incorporating cooking in the classroom with literacy. We will use our books to practice literacy skills, all while using our math skills as well to bake some delicious snacks. Each book is an easy read and include a simple dish that students can make. Cooking in the classroom will help practice applying their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Not only will they learn important life skills, but their vocabularies will grow and it will give them a sense of accomplishment. Cooking in the classroom will provide sensory memories that just talking and reading can’t.
