Building a STEAM Theme park was an absolute favorite activity for Kindergartners through 5th graders. The 5th graders surprised me because I thought they may not be into it since the pieces are bigger and designed for smaller hands. But there were different levels of building options so they could choose the level that fit their abilities and interests. It was wonderful to see them build, then play with their creations. \r\n\r\nI think we forget about the benefits of play in school. We are so standards and curriculum focused that play gets overlooked as a learning experience. I'll never forget the first time I took a class to tour the setup for the fall art show. You could see their jaws drop and pure excitement in their eyes as they saw everyone's work in frames and displayed throughout the entire gym. It seemed to be a simple addition, but students felt special seeing their name on the label rather than just being written on the front. The first day we were able to use these headphones, my class was more engaged than I'd seen them all year. They were focused and excited to understand what they were working on.
