My Students

Have you ever heard a word that you didn't know its meaning, and you didn't know how to respond? You would be where some of my students are most days. I would like for them to better understand the words that they hear and use and be able to respond appropriately and effectively.

I teach in a school that is high poverty, 59% are economically disadvantaged.

We have a number of students who are homeless. My school also has a high transiency rate. Just in my classroom alone I have had over 50% of my class come and go this year. Many are also here in the United States for the first time and English is not their first language. Our school is very culturally diverse.

My Project

Having an up to date dictionary available for my students would help them to understand what is being said to them and be able to respond in a non threatening way. The dictionaries will help them look up the meaning of words and then they could respond appropriately. They will be able to solve problems of misunderstanding and miscommunication.
