Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious, enthusiastic, and creative and I don't want to loose that creativity to our cluttered classroom. As an educator for the past 10 years, we care about and want to build relationships with our students to help them reach their highest potential in life. I have a mixture of students from different backgrounds of life and learning levels. I also have students who were severely affected by Hurricane Harvey and have yet to recover. We are definitely Houston Strong.

My Project

Research indicates that light, space, and room layout have a critical impact on physical and physiological well-being. Studies from the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture indicate that each feature of the architectural environment influences certain brain processes, such as those involved in stress, emotion, and memory. It’s our job as designers of our learning spaces to be familiar with some of these key elements where we can make a positive difference for student learning. Entering my classroom one day, it struck me. The space looked more like a teacher storage facility than an inspiring place for students to work together and learn. I know this needs to change. I am asking for a storage cabinet to house my students binders and an oscillating fan to combat the AC that is constantly breaking down in our building and making my students uncomfortable especially during the summer and spring months.
