Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my 6th and 7th grade self-contained classroom, many of my students are still developing foundational reading skills, and several struggle with decoding, fluency, and confidence as readers. To support them, I am requesting decodable books, books printed in dyslexia-friendly fonts, and high-interest/low-level texts. These resources will allow my students to access reading materials that match both their ability levels and their interests. Something that is incredibly important for older struggling readers who often feel discouraged when the only available books look “too young” for them.

Decodable books will help my students practice phonics in a structured, supportive way.

Dyslexia-font books will make reading physically easier and more accessible for students who experience visual stress or letter reversals. And high-interest/low-level titles will allow them to engage with exciting, age-appropriate content while still reading at a level that feels achievable. Together, these materials remove major barriers created by learning disabilities and help students build confidence, independence, and a genuine love of reading.

This project will provide my students with a library that supports them exactly where they are and helps them grow toward where they want to be. These books will not only strengthen their decoding and comprehension skills, but will also ensure that every student feels seen, capable, and excited to read.
