My Project
This year, I have revamped my literacy instruction to align with the Science of Reading and not the whole language approach. Shifting my literacy instruction to be more systematic and scientifically based has yielded immense growth in all of my students. I have taken nonreaders and turned them into readers!
Decodable texts not only reinforce the learning that we are doing in the classroom but it also helps students feel more confident and successful in reading.
For many of my students, up until this year, their reading has been stagnate due to poor reading instruction.
One struggle we still have is our classroom library. Currently students are being asked to read leveled readers which are often filled with words that are not decodable on the level the child is reading. To ensure seamless instruction and independent reading practice, I want to get ride of my leveled library and get all of my students into decodable texts. By giving my students access to decodable books some of my students have moved a reading level each month! Help us continue our growth by giving us access to great books!
