This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The school year started with amazing momentum, my English Language Learners were excited to start learning basic English phonics and vocabulary. I am very grateful that most of my students already have a love for learning and reading. At the beginning of the school year, students would choose books in their home language to independently read. But as their English language proficiency has grown they are ready to transition into reading in English.
I am proud to say that my students have mastered basic phonics skills and are ready to read decodable books on their own.
That is why I am asking for fiction and non-fiction decodable book sets. These books follow the science of reading sequence of skills to help students build upon their knowledge and skills. With these books, my students will be able to become proficient and fluent readers!
I am also asking for two teacher guides that will help me create lessons and activities to better reinforce those phonics skills. With your help, we'll be able to keep the learning momentum going throughout the year!
