Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For DecisionDay2018, our graduating seniors will be celebrated for having chosen to pursue higher education after high school. Having lived in the inner city of NYC, our students could have easily chosen a negative pathway for their futures. But no! My students applied to college, trade school, and job training programs to continue their education and work towards their career goals. Many of my students are first generation college attendees from low income households. They have limited resources and odds have been against them but despite their challenges and hardships, I plan on celebrating their decisions to expand their education and job outlook. They’ve decided on a dream, on a belief in themselves and on working towards a worthwhile achievement.
My Project
College is just around the corner! And what my students need are the tools to help them be successful as they pursue higher education. I will be celebrating my students’ decisions to enroll in college at a Decision Day 2018 event at our high school. I plan on doing it up BIG TIME by announcing college decisions over the loud speaker, having deciders sign a #IDecided banner, take pics in our makeshift photo booth, give away T-shirts and more! What would make this day even more special is have our students participate in a raffle - 2 winners will be chosen and win a laptop to use for college. Winners would be presented at our graduation ceremony.
