Dear Google, Bring Us Some Chromebooks

My students need five HP Chromebooks to communicate, learn keyboarding and coding, and work on their projects.

My Students

I teach in an older, urban, public school that is adjacent to two military bases and designated as high poverty. My students are economically disadvantaged. Although all of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch our school is not a Title I school. In my classroom alone I have had over 50% of my class come and go during the school year. Several of my students are also here in the United States for the first time, and English is not their first language.

I work with a wonderful group of sixth graders who are trying hard to be successful but they suffer from a lack of self-esteem and defeatism.

They are often bullied because they do not have the financial support that other students have. Many of them do not read at grade level. Writing is a struggle. They generally do not have access to technology outside of school and they often do not use their time wisely.

My Project

My students need to learn more about math and finance and I also want to help them acquire the skills to be successful in life. We have started working with local community groups to learn about money and finance. We have scrounged some materials but we need more. We need five HP Chromebooks that my students can use in our classroom to use Goggle Docs and work on a math/stock market project. These Chromebooks are not just technology. They are actually more like an essential supplies. Twenty years ago, I would have asked for pencils. Today, students need up-to-date computer access inside and outside of school especially for something like the stock market which changes daily.

I desperately need a few Chromebooks to help my students.

The support of donors would have an immediate positive impact on the lives of these terrific kids. Our school lacks many resources. This severely handicaps my students. I want to form an After School Finance Club so my students can learn about math and finance while learning how to get along. I want to help them be prepared for college. I want them to dream of a better life. Help me to help them.
