This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As you know, English learners (ELL) are a growing part of the K–12 student population. My classroom is culturally inclusive and inviting for all.
I want my students to be avid readers who will choose to read rather than play a video game!
My English learners need to read a wide variety of texts. I selected sets of literature books such as Nate the Great, The Girl Who Makes a Million Mistakes, and some nonfiction texts that give both girls and boys and my English learners a choice to read. I will also use these in my literacy academy groups where I will hand them to the kids to form a literature circle. I know with these books my English learners will feel empowered and take ownership of their learning!
