My Students
Do you know what it is like to walk into a colorful, inviting book store and not be able to buy a book for your child because money is tight. I would like to provide upper level reading material in leveled bins to improve students' reading skills.
My second grade students live in a rural area out in the country.
Nonfiction books would open up their world to a global picture. When students are challenged with higher level, colorful books, they will be tempted to read several times during the day. So, regardless of socioeconomic status, they'll improve reading/language scores at a tremendous rate.
My Project
Because the leveled library consists of nonfiction books, students will have access to science, social studies, health, and other content specific topics. These books will be useful addition to our small group reading time and to our learning centers. Also, those students who don't have a library at home would be able to borrow the books and read with their parents. Students will have fun and gain more confidence in their oral reading fluency.
Please help to make a difference in my students' lives by opening up the world through a leveled library of challenging, colorful, new reading material.
This wonderful, standards-based library will challenge students to reach beyond their potential.
