DC Chef Team Needs A Grill

Help me give my students on our Monument Academy Chef Team a grill as we feed our staff lunches, cook for events etc. We want to teach safe grilling techniques without a grill it’s been tough.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are between the ages of 11-14. We are a school for students who have experienced trauma, foster care, homelessness etc. Our chef team is in its second successful year and the students leave after a full year with a DC food license.

Students in our program show an increase in grades, managed behavior and critical thinking.

This prepares them for future employment or careers. It’s taught by myself Chef Lisa and I truly love my students. Thank You

My Project

A grill and supplies will further the students culinary abilities and prepare them to cook safely for family and work related meals.

These subjects will be covered while the students grow as a team . Grilling is part of these students cultures . Summers spent in back yard barbecues and family fun. In the future their careers in food may involve working with grills and it will be important for them to be prepared fully for this.
