This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch! I have high expectations that they will grow and learn beyond what is expected. We are learning skills such as robotics, coding, and typing along with our curriculum. School is a safe and happy place for my students. Each day, they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together. For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.
My Project
The desks that the students are currently using are written on frequently with dry erase markers during math lessons. Having desks that are dark tops henders what the students can see during our lessons. New desks with lighter tops will allow all students to participate.
The desks that are currently utilized by our students have been used for several years, some close to fourty years.
The seats and desks that we have are rusted, damaged, and are not adequate for the age group. New desks would help the students be more comfortable, therefore adding to their abilities to concentrate better in the classroom. Our current furniture is unacceptable for the size of our students, and having something new always gives our students a sense of pride. Many of our children see the school day as an escape, and they deserve new furniture.
