Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ever want to demonstrate a skill and end up getting carried away and covering 4-5 pieces of chart paper? That describes me and my teaching style to a T. I am a 5th grade general education teacher of 30 students in the Bronx, and luckily I am the type of person who, when I notice it's something the students are really into, I give them every piece of knowledge so I can to spark their desire for knowledge.
I am requesting a double-sided white board easel (that is sturdy) because unfortunately in my classroom, I have a wall covered by a chalkboard, which is only partially usable because it has been ruined by the previous teacher's use. Instead, I end up using chart paper to teach a lot of times instead of the board. This wastes a large amount of paper and sometimes the time it takes to put up more pieces of chart paper in the midst of a lesson ends up being enough time to lose the flow the class. All of my students would greatly benefit from having a double-sided white board because it allows for one experience to be left up over a period of time while the other side can be used and erased without wasting oodles and oodles of paper. Last year I had a white board that was and easel, but it was cheap and flimsy easel, and from wear and tear and toppling over, the legs broke off and now it is only functional when it is leaning against a wall or laying on a table. The other awesome benefit of having a white board is that for classrooms like mine , hich have an overhead but no projector screen or way to use the overhead, the board doubles as the screen when it has nothing written on it. For my students, the ability to draw something and erase it, instead of having to scribble it out, would really help their learning and reduce confusion (especially in math). In fifth grade, math concepts are beginning to get complicated and difficult and this would really make a difference for my students.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of the proposal for my students.
