My students need to develop environmental empathy by visiting an aquarium to see different marine species and how they evolved and a McDonald treat would seal this deal!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Acedo's classroom raised $481

My Students
A typical day in my classroom is centered around reading non-fiction text. They would read, marked the text, jot down notes using Cornell templates to prepare them for discussion. Since they just transitioned to HS this year, they have difficulty adjusting and a few times they would be rebellious.
Our school is really small.
It has shrunk over the last 4 years. We only have an average of about 80 students due to the changing demographics. The students have the tendency to be playful and for a very few they can be belligerent. although, not all students here are as bad as they sound, many of them despite their situations at home or in foster care are really kind- hearted souls. We did not have a field trip so far into the school year because many of them have financial constraints. Now that the weather is warming up and I have the chance to take them with the generosity of people out there, a day in the aquarium would be a different experience for them.
My students can also practice behaving accordingly in places like an aquarium or a museum. We will tackle our earth science standards worksheets while practicing compassion and empathy. The year was challenging for them but they delivered and this day out of school with treat can really put a smile on their faces.
My Project
My 9th graders will take the Living Environment Regents the day after our trip. Visiting an aquarium may spark curiosity among them that they take advantage of interviewing the guide about the marine animals that maybe related to their lesson in science.
Since they are taking the Living Environment Regents, the first test they are taking as high school students, I am hoping that the experience can set their spark inspiration to do well in the test.
Also, I would like for them to end the school year on a more positive note so they can also look forward the coming school year in the fall.
