Dashing the Pandemic

My Students

I love my students and their desire to learn in my classroom. They are hardworking, creative, kind, and considerate. My students are 3rd-5th grade gifted students in a suburban public school in Alabama. While my students have diverse interests, strengths, and talents, they all love active learning though experimenting, debating, role-playing, drama, and creating presentations. We have a very strong classroom community. My students look out for and care about each other.

My students are identified as intellectually gifted and are thrilled to spend a few hours each week in my classroom enriching their minds with "think outside the box" projects.

Our "think outside the box" projects are focused around STEM, Robotics, Social Emotional Learning as well as creative, critical and logical thinking skills lessons. My students love to figure things out and are passionate problem solvers.

My Project

Dash Robots are programmable robots that allow students to apply their coding skills with the use of iPads using the app Blockly. Using these robots will enable the students to see their coding skills come to life by completing real world challenge simulations in the classroom. The benefits of coding in the classroom include logical thinking, problem solving, persistence, collaboration, and communication. Dash will strengthen the students' understanding of coding based on how their robot functions during testing procedures. Bringing hands-on coding to my classroom will help prepare my students for the future.
