I have the privilege of being the K-5th grade science lab teacher at an International Baccalaureate PYP magnet school in Mobile, AL. Each class comes one day a week for 30-45 minutes of hands-on science instruction. Lessons in the lab incorporate the use of technology as we enrich their learning in the classroom.
Our school emphasizes high expectations for high achievement.
We offer many extra curricular activities to introduce our students to different opportunities to expand their learning. We emphasize working together on projects that will answer questions the students have about their learning. We offer an after school STEM Club where students practice the engineering design process to solve a common problem. Students are always excited to experience new challenges in their learning.
Students in K-2 will be introduced to the world of coding with Dash robots and tablets. Students will work in small groups to experience the challenge and excitement of creating programs to complete required tasks. They will learn to modify programs as they challenge themselves to solve problems encountered.
Each group of four students will work together to plan the problem they want to solve.
They will then help each other to complete the coding required to accomplish the task. Each student will be given the opportunity to code and drive the robot. They will challenge each other for success!
