My Students

Have you ever had an imaginative image in your mind and you just wanted to express it? My creative class of Kindergarteners enjoy and love art and painting and creating, but our public school only provides the basic necessities for our students. We need engaging art, colorful art supplies!

Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low income families and students who are English language learners.

My energetic, diverse class of nineteen Kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. 26% of my students are Latino, 21% are African American, 11% are Caucasian, 16% are Vietnamese, 5% are Chinese, 5% are Nepalese, 5% are Cambodian, 5% are Filipino, and 5% are Filipino/Caucasian. More than 50% of my class speaks more than one language. The majority of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced school lunch.

My Project

This wide array of art supplies and tools will give my students the opportunity to create the way they envision by dabbing, swirling, swooshing, mixing and designing with all kids of soft, sparkly, tiny, multi-sensory ingredients. The rainbow glitter, paint dabbers, and paint supplies will give the students the necessary staples to make their fingers dance across the page to create their own unique masterpieces. The tracing stencils will give students the hands-on and fine motor practice they need to learn how to write, learn their numbers, letters, and shapes, and also give them the opportunities to practice their cutting skills. The textural gems, shapes, beads, pom poms, feathers, and shapes will give them the multi-tactile experiences they need to develop their fine-motor as well as their artistic abilities. The drying rack will provide an organizational place to dry their unique creations. And the clear wipe pockets will be used to display their favorites pieces of work!

Children need a way to express their creativity and thoughts and art is a natural way to achieve this.

I want my students to go beyond the paper and pencil experience. They deserve to have an array of art materials and ingredients to feed their imaginations and express their thoughts and feelings. Join me in giving my students the gift of experiencing their own personal joy of art making.
