Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dedicated, focused, and responsible would be one way to describe the students in my after school Dance Club. My students come from various backgrounds and they encounter many challenges both in and out of school. Our school is an inner-city school with a high poverty and crime rate.
My students created an environment that is positive, accepting, and uplifting.
They choose to use their time and energy in a positive manner in effort to rise above their uncontrollable and difficult circumstances. They are not only an inspiration to me, but they inspire and support their peers all the time. They deserve to be assisted with their club needs as their actions are payment enough.
My Project
The students need to stretch before and after they begin their dance routine.
Currently, they are doing this on the hard, cold, dirty floor.
They need exercise mats so they can stretch properly and so they can try new moves without the fear of getting hurt.
They also need speakers so they can hear their music at a decent volume. Currently, they can only play music from their phone which they can barely hear.
After they dance and practice routines they are very hungry. Often many students go home to a home where there is no food. I would like to provide them with crackers, meat sticks, and cookies to help them recharge after a two-hour "workout".
