This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My dance group consists of 20 dancers who are from low-income families, and some live in shelters.

Please help me give my students leotards and ballet slippers to enhance the appearance of their group performance and feel like professional dancers.

My students often feel under-represented as they have received free tickets to attend Ballet performances and do not see dancers of color that are representative of their various cultural backgrounds.

These student dancers have an enthusiasm and genuine love for the art of dance, and I would like for them to present as professional, costumed dance troupe/company at their event.

I am always impressed by the fact that in the few months in which they meet, they work so hard and are able to remember choreography to perfect their moves. They take immense pride in presenting their superb talent to their families, school staff and peers.

Funding this project so they can have the proper attire to present themselves as a proper dance company would help raise their levels of self-esteem as many see themselves as the next Misty Copeland or Shannon Harkins.
