My students are an eclectic mix of characters who genuinely care about each other. They have taken the prerogative to help themselves and their peers fundraise for school events that they cannot otherwise afford.
My students developed this idea because they wanted to be able to help themselves fundraise for school activities. Our school has many events, teams, and other opportunities that require students to bring in money that they don't have. We need a new way to help students empower themselves with fundraising.
Students need to learn how to advocate for themselves. They are very frustrated by the fact that school activities are out of their reach because of financial challenges and they want a way to help themselves. By fundraising and advocating to help their own situation, they will learn how to work together to solve a daunting problem.
In Their Own Words
We want to earn money for students by holding a dance-a-thon. At the same time, students will be earning money to participate in school activities. Each participant will fundraise for a certain amount of time, which will determine how much money they earn. The money earned will be used as assistance in paying for school events such as class trips, AP exams, prom, or for future fundraising. This event will be fun and benefit students of our school because students will be able to help ourselves.
This project creates leaders by responsibility of earning money for themselves. This is open to all students from grades 6-12. We will guide them through the steps of learning how to manage money properly, and the responsibilities that come along with money management as well as creating a more unified community in our school. We want to leave a memorable mark in our school history and It is important to our school because we would like to help students have fun and help themselves.
The students in our school are the most spirited group of kids that we know. Unfortunately, most of them are also some of the economically deprived students as well. This would be a stepping stone for it will give students the opportunity to partake in regular school activities. We will overcome the challenge! Students in our school have so many aspirations and it is heartbreaking to exclude them. We need to be there when the students need us because they have always been there for us.
