Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have been given the opportunity to coach our amazing Color Guard squad this year, I assisted last year under the leadership of their former sponsor. She was simply super fantastic, but because she is so super fantastic she received a promotion and has since left the leadership of the Color Guard to me.

The Tigerette and Color Guard members march whenever and wherever the superior-rated Band of Distinction performs!!

These young ladies, dance, twirl flags and perform crowd-pleaser routines. The band truly is a performing band, they march at all football games, parades also for special appearances. This past Mardi Gras season the band and color guard marched in three Mardi Gras parades on 3 different days!

The challenge that I have had is getting them to buy into the restructured program, which I can see happening. I am super glad, too!

My Project

These young ladies are outstanding performers on and off the field. They manage school, classwork, homework, extracurricular and band activities. I might say if they aren't super heroes, then I don't know who are.

I would like to continue to build on some of the things the young ladies in dance have learned this year including leadership skills, how to construct a dance from beginning to end, how to execute and implement ballet and formal dance into hip/hop dances, and how to work as a team.

This year, the captains have had the biggest challenge of all. They had to create and design uniforms that would be approved by sponsors and administration, as well as district personnel. My dancers need these requested tote bags to store their dance equipment and uniforms for band trips.
