Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our dance room is filled with inspirational quotes and pictures of dancers from all dance styles. Our goal this year is to use the dance technique and performance skills we have learned to create high energy and uplifting performances. My students enjoy learning dance styles that are new to them. My students range from grades kindergarten to eighth grade.

Students love to share their talents with family and friends at our annual Winter Fine Arts Recital and Spring Production.

Our school is located in an urban community where 95% of our students come from a low-income family. In my classroom, students express themselves through movement while preparing for performances. These performances bring our community together and highlight our students' hard work in the performing arts. This is essential during a time when our city is filled with violence. Our students need the fine arts. Dance gives them that chance to be creative and express how they feel.

My Project

My students will use the leotards and tutu skirts for upcoming school performances. The leotards and tutu skirts will give our students the opportunity to show their beginner ballet technique. We need a variety of sizes as our students are getting older and growing into great dancers! These items will help them understand the process of preparing for a stage performance. It will also teach them the necessary attire for ballet dancers when performing on stage. It is my goal for students to learn the importance of coordinating colors and costume material together so that it's appropriate for the dance style being performed. They will also learn how to present a performance in a professional manner on stage. The leotards and tutu skirts will give students a sense of importance on stage in their costume. It will also make them confident in their performance. This donation will teach them the importance of preparation for a performance through the use of clothing and overall performance skills.
